BMWs made before September 2011 at risk of theft from £18 cloned key-fobs (but company says it is 'not legally obliged to help out')
Criminals are able to purchase a $30 (£18) tool which will allow them to program a blank car key-fob - and then steal high-end cars including BMW with the click of a button.
The thieves are able to purchase what are known as 'on-board diagnostics bypass tools' from China and Eastern Europe, which come in a kit form with instructions and blank keys, according to a new report.
Thieves can then capture the remote-controlled code sent by an owner to his car, and then re-program a blank key and steal the car at their own convenience.
The issue was highlighted when thieves managed to steal a £43,000 BMW in June from a house in Sutton Coldfield, using a fob to gain easy access.

Heard the one about the 15-year-old girl who drove a $305,000 Lamborghini to her Texas high school?
There are only 150 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradales in the world, making it one of the rarest cars on the road.
And with a price tag of more than $300,000, it hardly seems surprising why.
But for one 15-year-old girl in Dallas, it is just her transportation of choice on the daily commute to and from school.

Close to 1,000 Ferraris smash world record at Silverstone
A gathering of 964 Ferraris at the Silverstone race track in the UK have set a new world record for the largest single gathering of Prancing Horses, smashing the previous record of 490 cars set in 2008 at Japan’s Fuji Speedway Circuit. Though not quite the 1,000 cars organizers were hoping for, the record is still very impressive and could end up lasting years before it is broken."

Privacy concerns raised over California "robot car" legislation
Published September 14, 2012
The dream of having your car drive you home is on the verge of getting a major boost. As early as January of next year, California may join Nevada in legalizing the use of autonomous cars, potentially allowing “drivers” to read the paper or catch up on e-mails on the way to the office.
But a consumer advocacy organization warns that the cars could do more than that, collecting personal information that could be shared with others, and is asking for a gubernatorial veto of the bill approving them, which was passed by the state legislature in August."
Whether you like it or not...innovation is here and taking its stand. We know there is a future of autonomous trucks and fleet vehicles; computer controlled, and remotely driven. People will get in their trucks, suburbans, and sport utility vehicles...turn on a movie and sit back as the computer plots and drives the best course. Pinnacle is poised and ready to appraise these autos, trucks, and fleets as they hit the mainstream. We realize the future is now! Whether you're in a big city or small town...like: Houston, Texas, Denver, Colorado, Miami, Florida, Seattle, Washington, Anchorage, Alaska or any surrounding areas...we can serve you!
Muscle Car Flops: The 5 least muscular muscle cars
When the golden age of muscle cars ended in 1973, fuel shortages, insurance rate increases and emissions laws ushered in what has been popularly dubbed “The Malaise Era,” which saw low-compression, low-horsepower engines and cars that may have looked like muscle cars but sure didn’t perform like them. Here are some of the 98-pound weaklings of the immediate post-muscle era:
1. 1976 Ford Mustang II Cobra: The Mustang II Cobra was famous as the ride of Farrah Fawcett in the first season of “Charlie’s Angels.” While it reprised the name of the famous Carroll Shelby sports car, there was little that was sporty about the car other than its faux racing stripes. With just 140 hp from a 302 V-8, 0-60 took more than 10 seconds.
2. 1980 “California” Corvette: Anyone who remembers “California emissions” as one of the litany of recited options on game show giveaway cars of the ’70s knows that the Golden State has always had tougher smog laws than anyone else. Already down about 600 percent in power from the mid-’60s, in 1980 GM couldn’t provide the Corvette with a 350 V-8 that was clean enough for Cali, so an anemic 305 was substituted. It was a new post-1954 low for the ’Vette.
3. 1974 Pontiac GTO: The last of the “real” GTOs were sold in the 1972 model year. For 1974, the GTO was based on the Ventura, Pontiac’s version of the Chevy Nova. A 200 hp 350 ci V-8 was the only engine available. Still, given the car’s relatively light weight, its sub-8-second 0-60 run makes it the speedster on this list.
4. 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28: Perhaps the nadir of the stone knife and bearskin approach to emission controls, the ’81 Camaro Z/28 with a 5.7-liter V-8 came with a whopping 165 hp if you ordered the manual transmission. To put that into perspective, the 1.6-liter turbo four in a new Chevy Cruze is rated at 181 hp.
5. 1980-81 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am: Along with the Mustang II Cobra, the Turbo T/A may be the champ on this list when it comes to the graphics package writing a check that the engine couldn’t cash. A weight problem and the disappointing output of the turbocharged 301 ci V-8 combined for a car that was to the Trans Am what “Smokey and the Bandit Part 3” was to sequels. "

"Car plunges over 40ft drop after smashing through barrier and crashing down on to construction site
A female motorist survived a dramatic 40ft plunge into a construction pit after her car hit several other vehicles and ploughed through a wooden fence.
The woman was rescued by construction workers after her Toyota Highlander crashed through a plywood barrier in Brooklyn, New York, and fell front first into the pit below.
Witnesses said the driver had swerved to avoid a cyclist riding on the wrong side of the road, before hitting two vans and a parked car and careering through the barrier into the 40ft-deep construction area.

"You either like the 2013 Smart ForTwo minicar, or you don't.
Few are ambivalent to a shape and a concept so divisive as the Smart, but U.S. sales would suggest that rather more people dislike it than appreciate its cheeky nature.
One popular misconception about the ForTwo from those rather less keen on it, is that you take your life into your hands every time you step behind the wheel. People equate size with safety, so the 8-foot Smart just doesn't look very safe."
I get a few laughs from time to time from my wife about the Smart Car...but Pinnacle Auto Appraisers knows quality...and actually this is a great vehicle...and a bit more safe than it looks...
"The Chevy Volt, the plug-in car that has been plagued by sluggish sales and mounting losses since General Motors rolled it out in 2010, has one deep-pocketed customer: the Pentagon.
The Department of Defense is planning to purchase 1,500 electric cars including Volts as part of its effort to make the military more environmentally friendly. But given the federal government’s bailout of Chevy maker General Motors, President Obama’s praise of the Volt and the car’s long-running problems, the federal purchase is likely to become the latest controversy in the Volt’s short life.
Earlier this week, Reuters reported that GM is losing up to $49,000 on every Volt driven out of the showroom. The report took GM’s huge investment in the pioneering car and divided it by the meager sales to date and concluded that each car costs the company nearly $90,000 – more than double the sticker price.
GM blasted the report, disputing the numbers and insisting that as sales build, the initial costs will be recouped and the cost-per-car will fall."
